Discovery has officially announced the contribution increase that will take effect from 1st April 2023. The scheme has taken a slightly different approach with the increases by splitting the them across the various plans as follows:
- For the extensive day-to-day plans (Executive, Comprehensive & Priority), the increase percentage will be 9.9% from 1st April.
- For the hospital and limited day-to-day plans (Keycare, Core, Smart & Saver), the increase percentage will be 7.9% from 1st April.
The total weighted average contribution increase for 2023 is 8.2%, effective 1 April 2023. The reason for the difference in percentage increases is due to the high demand for healthcare on the extensive day-to-day plans. Discovery has seen a 7% increase in disease management on these plans such as higher hospital admissions, higher oncology prevalence and higher prevalence on chronic conditions.

All members on plan options with a Medical Savings Account (MSA) will have a corresponding increase in their MSA contributions from 1 April 2023, and the additional MSA amount will be allocated by 1 April 2023. Limits, co-payments, deductibles, and thresholds were increased on 1 January 2023, and will remain at their current levels for the rest of 2023. Members that have reached their Above Threshold Benefit (ATB) before the additional Medical Savings Account (MSA) allocation as result of the increase, will remain in their ATB and continue to access the associated risk funded benefits. The additional MSA allocation will be carried over to the next year or can be used for healthcare expenses not funded from the member’s ATB in 2023.
Discovery is now allowing members to make plan changes that will take effect from 1st April. Please ensure that all plan change requests are submitted to Lorraine as a matter of urgency. Members on Keycare must submit income verification documents to avoid being placed on the highest income band. These documents include: completed income verification form, 3 months payslips, 3 months bank statements.
